    • @EnertechGlobal
      @EnertechGlobal 3 месяца назад

      We cannot do domestic hot water and hydronic heating or cooling at the same time. When commissioning the unit, priority settings will be made, and you will choose what will run when you have multiple heating or cooling calls. Usually, domestic hot water will be a priority and will run whenever there is a call for domestic hot water. With the Advantage heat pump, it does not "store" hot water so it will shut the cooling call off when domestic hot water calls and will turn the cooling back on when the domestic hot water call is complete.

    Does the internal unit need a drain for condensation? I would like to make our design compatible with this since we are still in the planning stage. This tech looks like it could *almost* reduce redundancy of a fridge compressor system too, at some point.

      @@EnertechGlobal Thank you! I download the spec sheet and it looks like only the outdoor unit needs a drain. How does it run the defrost cycle? Does it require any resistive coil to create defrost heat (including when it's connected to a forced air handler)? Or does it do all its defrosting using the fluid's built-up heat?

    • @EnertechGlobal
      @EnertechGlobal Год назад

      The unit has two types of defrost, passive and active. Passive Defrost runs when outdoor temperatures are above 39F, and the compressor is not operating, but the air coil temperature indicates that defrost is necessary. In this mode, the reversing valve does not shift, and the fan runs at high speed in order to increase coil temperature with the outdoor air temperature. If there is a compressor demand, passive defrost stops, and the compressor starts. The second defrost mode, Active Defrost, begins when the air coil temperature falls below 27F. In this mode, the reversing valve shifts to cooling mode, the fan stops, and the compressor continues to run until the coil temperature reaches 37.4F or the discharge gas temperature reaches 140F. This mode continues for 90 seconds once either temperature is reached. While in Active Defrost mode, if the water between the indoor module and outdoor unit drops below 58F, electric heat will be used. This electric heat will turn off once the water temperature reaches above 63F

    What if you install the ground loop in an underground water tank? My underground water tank is 10000 liter 10" deep

    • @Real_Tim_S
      @Real_Tim_S Год назад

      Lakes/ponds have been used with ground source loops, I have not heard of encolsed tanks being used as much of anything more than a buffer. Remember that a BTU is the amount of energy to heat one pound of water 1 degree (not a phase change). 1lb of water is about 0.454Liters. So your 10K-Liter tank if full represents about 22,026BTU per degree, roughly 2-tons of energy if conveyed in an hour... but you need more information. Water is water in a given range, so you need to know where the water temeprature is starting - then you can add up to the boiling phase change, and subtract down to freezing phase change. From there, a Ton of heating/cooling is 12,000BTU/hr - you would just need to work out what the building's demand is and then see if the tank has enough capacity for the season you're trying to condition. I wouldn't use a tank and a ground loop this way though, unless I had a 1Million liter confined water source or larger. Older opera houses used to have effectively a lake in the sub basement that they'd circulate air through before bringing it in at the feet of the patrons in their seats - it was an early form of swamp cooler (evaporating water into the air, bringing the air temp down at the slight cost of bringing humidity up). This is some of the background for The Phantom of the Opera, with the boat under the building. Lakes/ponds and ground loops in soil actually use constantly moving ground water to massively increase the BTU capacity of the groundloop. Once your ground loop takes out or puts in heat, the natural movement of ground water through the soil "refreshes" the ground temperature in contact with the loop (one can still locally dry out or freeze the soil if your loop is not large enough for the demand).

    From the description (and diagram) you gave about changing from an upflow to downflow configuration, it looks like the airflow over the A-coil has been reversed (i.e., the air now enters the chamber from the "narrow" end of the A-coil, whereas in the upflow - and sideflow - configurations have it entering from the "wide" end of the A-coil). Were there any experiments done to see if there is any change in either (or both) of the effective airflow rate (CFM), or effective cooling capacity? I'm just curious if the different direction of flow creates any turbulence, etc. affecting either of the two measures that I mentioned.

    • @EnertechGlobal
      @EnertechGlobal 2 года назад

      Hi Sean! Sizing of a solar PV array is highly dependent on many factors. Ground/roof position, total kWh load of the home, annual sun coverage, etc... However, most homeowners find that they need to install a much smaller solar PV system when they go with the Advantage as opposed to a traditional HVAC solution or even a modern air-to-air heat pump due to the efficiencies of the Advantage.

    An energy efficient home or business is more comfortable and saves money in the long run. Solar energy on your roof combined with battery storage can make people more independent from the grid and natural gas supplies. Add solar and supplemental electric heating or a heat pump for home or business heating.. All big box stores and manufacturing sites can support solar energy on their roofs or parking lots. Added insulation, double or triple glaze windows, energy efficient doors, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, energy efficient appliances, LED lighting, smart thermostats, solar panels combined with battery storage and a electric vehicle charger in the garage or car park. People are too focused on the short term costs and miss out on long term savings and comfort. Blower door testing and air sealing are under appreciated tools.Even if you have money to burn you should not waste it. Climate Change will impact everyone. Leave a better future for your children and grandchildren. Join in and speak up for the future of the plane

  • @KJSvitko
    @KJSvitko 2 года назад

    Climate Change is making weather events more extreme. Floods, droughts, fires, excessive heat and low water levels in reservoirs and in ground water storage are becoming more common. We must stop adding more fossil fuels to the climate fire. India, China, Japan, US, Europe, Indonesia, Canada, Germany and Australia need to do more to reduce use of fossil fuels. They must stop building and financing more coal fossil fuels power plants. Time to go all in on wind and solar energy and electric vehicles. Fossil fuels are a bad investment for people and the planet. Investors are divesting from fossil fuels. ESG investing is growing. The cost of dealing with the impact of climate change will be greater than the cost of reducing the impact.

    19:40 The max temperature for domestic hot water is 135 F (57C). That is not hot enough to kill Legionella bacteria. Is this not an issue because it is on demand?

    • @quetzal4042
      @quetzal4042 2 года назад

      I'm pretty sure the on-demand feature doesn't eliminate the problem. In these systems, hot water from the heat pump circulates through a coil in the hot water tank and heats the water in the tank, so there is still a large reservoir of 135° water in which bacteria could theoretically survive, and that is the water that would go to the faucets. Consensus seems to be that 135° is plenty hot in most situations, but many indirect hot water tanks have auxiliary electric heating elements that can be configured to periodically cycle up to 140° and eliminate any possibility of bacterial growth.
